You are stronger than any mistreatment
You are deeper than all surface appearances
You are vaster than all limited opinions about you
You are more than a mere name, age, or gender
You are more than numbers on a scale or in a bank
You are more than the grades, degrees, or job titles
You are more than all past mistakes or accomplishments
You are more than labels, and any attempts to define you
You are a steady, nourishing stream, ever-growing
You are a brilliant light paving new, exciting paths
You are an unstoppable force navigating every challenge
You are a blessed child with unlimited promise
You are a seed brimming with unrealized potential
You are a radiant being, glowing from within

The poem you just read is a powerful reminder that true worth comes from within, not from external labels or limitations. I wrote this in 2016 after returning to Kenya from Europe with a renewed perspective on life.
During my 18 months abroad, I realized how often we allow society's narrow definitions and expectations to box us in and dim our inherent brilliance. But the truth is, you are so much more than any label, accomplishment, or perceived limitation.
You are a unique, ever-evolving force of nature – a steady stream nourishing the world, a brilliant light illuminating new paths, and an unstoppable force capable of navigating any challenge.
You are a blessed child of God brimming with infinite potential, a radiant being whose inner glow has the power to create, love, and uplift.
Whose opinion matters most in determining how you see yourself and show up in the world? The answer lies within you.

You know what? From a very young age, the way we see ourselves is heavily influenced by the opinions and expectations of others. Psychologists call this the "looking-glass self"—we internalize how we think people perceive us. But constantly living up to external standards robs us of authenticity.
YOU ARE MORE than how others define you.
Too often, our self-esteem also gets tied to achievements, appearance, and status - things that are ultimately temporary. When we base our self-worth on these superficial factors, we're on a neverending treadmill, constantly feeling inadequate.
When will we have enough, feel enough, and know enough to stop searching, seeking, and yearning? It will never happen. That's a hard reality we have to accept.
Deep down, YOU ARE MORE than any accomplishment or milestone.
Our self-perception can become our weakest link! This is how advertisers and media find room to shape our self-perception in unhealthy ways, creating unrealistic ideals that leave us feeling flawed and incomplete. Impossible external measures, such as unnatural beauty standards, leave us feeling hopelessly flawed.
But YOU ARE MORE than the narrow perfection advertisers, media, and external voices try to sell to you.
Unshackling our identity from these external pressures can be transformative.
Here is one of those easier-said-than-done pieces of advice: Take control of your self-identity and get reacquainted with your authentic self and core values. But it's crucial work we have to do to create a new reality and expand our freedom.
What did you love as a child before other people's opinions mattered so much? Rediscover those passionate interests and express yourself through them unapologetically.
YOU ARE MORE than other's expectations.
Notice when you're people-pleasing to gain approval and put your foot down. Having boundaries and saying 'no' ensures your needs get met, too. Make decisions aligned with your highest values, not what others want from you.
YOU ARE MORE than other people's agenda for your life.
Also, be mindful of your self-talk. We all have that critical inner voice. But would you let someone talk to your best friend like that? Show yourself compassion. Celebrate small wins and be a radiant source of love and light for yourself first.
YOU ARE MORE than your harsh self-judgment.
Deciding your self-worth is a lifelong journey of rewriting the narratives that no longer serve you.
